As an Electrical Engineering intern at Madern, you will work independently on exciting projects. This is an internship where you can apply not only your technical skills but also your innovative thinking. For example, you will work on visualizing Human Machine Interfaces, standardizing core software, or exploring possibilities for software generation. During your internship, you will develop concepts, test your ideas, and collaborate closely with our technical specialists. This gives you a unique opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills in practice.
'Human Machine Interface Visualization'
Madern's machines are currently equipped with screens that are directly connected to the PLC. We are exploring how we can apply unified panels, especially since two of our companies (Tooling and Automation) have recently merged, each with its own visualization system. This gives us the opportunity to completely renew and upgrade the control panels. You will investigate the possibilities for implementing these new screens and how we can introduce High-Performance HMI (Human Machine Interface). Additionally, you will look into how we can better align the visualization of the PLC control with the screens we use for our robot panels.
'Standardization of Core Software'
Madern designs and manufactures a wide range of machines. Despite the diversity of our machines, many of them use the same core software from a PLC perspective. You will investigate which parts of our machines are suitable for standardization. Additionally, you will explore how we can make these standardized modules flexible by adding configuration or parameterization, so that they remain easily adaptable for different applications.
'Opportunities for Software Generation'
At Madern Automation, we have developed a solid foundation for controlling our machines in the paper converting industry. This foundation is modular, built with standard control and equipment modules, providing a good starting point for new projects. However, we still often rely on old projects, which can lead to inefficiencies and copying errors.
Your task is to investigate how we can develop a tool that automatically generates parts of the code, enabling us to work faster and with fewer errors. This means that instead of copying and adapting projects repeatedly, we can adopt a more streamlined approach. Various self-developed tools are already in use, but there are now better and more user-friendly options available.
An interesting extension of this task is to also look at the possibilities for automatically generating HMI visualizations. By selecting and setting up the right tool, we can not only speed up the project timeline at Madern but also reduce the chance of errors.
